Mandi Bunga

reading-in-a-bath

I once used this as my Facebook profile picture and an acquaintance said it was unlikely that the rest of the woman would fit into the bath. Who cares! It’s quite enough to imagine lying in fragrant, flower-strewn water, with a book and a glass of something delicious.

Here in Malaysia, some people believe that a floral bath (mandi bunga) comprising seven kinds of flowers has the power of casting a glamour over the bather (so that those who gaze of him/her will be charmed by what they see), or even dispelling bad luck. I have not tried it. I can’t see myself taking the trouble to gather the different flowers and I don’t believe in what the ritual is supposed to achieve, but what a pretty picture it would be.
